to be or not to be

a few years ago i learned about this lady, vivian maier, and i recently stumbled upon her photography again. she was a nanny in the 50s- and her hobby was photography. she was a very closed off and private person and almost all her employers had no idea she had such a passion for photography. an amateur historian named john maloof was bidding at an auction at one point and bought a trunk of her negatives because he needed some old photographs for a project he was doing. they didn't work out for his project but he ended up scanning the photos anyway and thought they were pretty good, that other people would be interested and enjoy them too so he uploaded them onto flickr and decided to hunt down more of vivian's things. he ended up with 100,000 negatives, 700 rolls of undeveloped color film, 2,000 undeveloped rolls of black-and-white film, and a LOT of her belongings. she was a pack rat and hoarded everything. at the end of her career she ended up moving into her employer's house as a nanny with 200 boxes of her things.
"why did vivian make these images? what drove her to such a compulsion to an obsessive degree to take so many pictures? why were they never shown?"
she would use her bathroom as a dark room
also, alec and i went to naruto ramen today and they gave us a free shirt because we're regulars...
